We think we have the largest collection of hockey books, magazines and associated publications in the world. These date from the 1890s through to the present day. The Museum's shelves hold in excess of 1,300 books covering some 650 titles which are organised by subject, e.g. biography, coaching, indoor hockey, Olympics, and umpiring. If you are looking for a particular book then you can look through our online catalogue which is divided by thematic sub-categories on the left of this page.
Our book collection is far from complete however, so we are very interested in adding to our growing list of publications. One of the most interesting subject areas is club histories. The Museum has information on some English 4,000 clubs that have played since organised hockey began, but to date, we only have copies of about 100 official club histories publications. There must be more. Please check our list of club history publications and if your club publication is not there, please send us a copy. We’re not only interested in English clubs but clubs from the Home Countries and from anywhere around the World. Even if you don’t have an official club history, please send us any information you have, even if it only consists of basic dates or a photograph or two. Any historical information that you can let us have is guaranteed a good home.
The Museum is also home to a large number of magazines, handbooks, rule books, programmes, fixture lists and minute books, many of which are still being catalogued. The full list of the hockey magazines that we have can be viewed by clicking here or selecting "Hockey Magazines" on the left. The Museum now has many complete sets of these magazines but we are trying to build up duplicate sets to be able to use them for browsing and sending out on loan. If you know where we can find any editions of magazines that are missing, please get in touch. In the future we hope to be able to digitise the most important of these magazines in order to provide full access to the wealth of information that they contain.
If you would like to know more about the publications in the Library or you have any books or magazines that you would like to donate, please contact The Hockey Museum Librarian using our online form.
