The pin badge collection continues to grow. The various types of badges have also increased from the more traditional pin badges through to key ring badges, cloth badges, medallions and tiepins. To date the Museum has identified and collated over 1,000 individual and different items.
It is hoped that the digital cataloguing of all the items can commence shortly.
Not surprisingly, the largest numbers of badges are from England & Great Britain with less from the other Home Countries. In the European section, Germany, Netherlands and Russia are proving the most popular with one or two French, Belgian and Italian badges.
With regard to 'overseas' badges, we already have a good selection from countries like Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, South Korea, USA and Zimbabwe but there are many other hockey playing nations that we have no badges for as yet.
The collection of Olympic badges is also developing well with our earliest item from the 1964 Tokyo games and going through to 2012 with just three missing: 1976 Montreal, 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing. We would love to get examples of badges from all the Olympic Games, so please get in touch if you have any lying around. We have a small Tournament and Championship section that includes World and European Championships, Commonwealth Games, Champions Trophy and so on, but these badges seem harder to come by.
The badges that we are having the most difficultly in identifying are those from Clubs and Associations. The Museum also has a few badges depicting tournament mascots, however naming and placing them cirrectly is quite challenging.
