The Hockey Museum (THM) has a small but growing collection of films. At present they are only known by title as many are too fragile to be viewed using a conventional projector. Looking at the films in this way is likely to cause damage either by stretching or by breaking them. Before we can view them safely they will need to be digitised.
The film reels in our current collection appear to cover a range of topics from events and matches such as those at the 5th International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations (IFWHA) Triennial Conference and Tournament played at Folkestone in 1953 and women's internationals played at Wembley Stadium, to educational film loops produced by the Hockey Association.
The Museum also has a collection of videos. These range from home recorded events to professionally produced tapes.
In July 2016, THM was awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to enable it to digitise its collection of nearly 100 old hockey films. Read more about the project here.
